It’s time for vacation! It’s time to visit Velingrad!
Bulgaria is a beautiful country rich in mineral water springs, an excellent prerequisite for tourism development. And many superb spa resorts are waiting for you. You can find different spa resorts and hotels in the country, offering high-quality services and spa procedures to strengthen your health and indulge yourself. One of the most popular and visited spa resorts in Bulgaria is Velingrad. Below I will show you the largest four-star spa hotel and one of my favorites in Velingrad – Hotel Spa Club Bor 4* Velingrad. Find below why you should choose this hotel for your holiday in Velingrad.

Quick info about Hotel Spa Club Bor 4* Velingrad
Opened in 2007 and immediately awarded “Balneo Hotel of the Year for 2008”, Hotel Spa Club Bor 4* Velingrad doesn’t stop developing itself and offering high-quality services. It is the first certified hotel in Bulgaria by the European Spa Association. Furthermore, it won 4 times (2018-2021) international hotel awards – Haute Grandeur Global Awards.
This hotel is a beautiful place in Velingrad, perfect for a relaxing spa vacation. Furthermore, it is a hotel with traditions in health care, providing excellent service at affordable prices. Hidden in a lovely pine forest, you will find clean air, a tranquil atmosphere in a quiet location above the town, and gorgeous panoramic views of the area. So what do you want more about your spa vacation?
How to get to the Hotel Spa Club Bor 4* Velingrad
You have different options to get to Velingrad if you are in Sofia. You can travel by car, which is the fastest (around 1.30 – 2 hours) and the most convenient way. And you won’t have a problem finding a parking space at the hotel.
The train trip from Sofia railway station to Velingrad takes around 3.30 – 4 hours. You will travel from Sofia to Septemvri, and there you have to take a bus or another train to Velingrad. But be prepared for a long trip, and… don’t be surprised if BDZ has a delay.
If you choose to travel by bus, it takes around 2 hours. During the week, there are several direct buses between Sofia and Velingrad daily. But it is more challenging to travel on the weekend because there is only one bus daily. And if you decide to travel by bus, better call the Bus station South (Avtogara Yug) and check the bus schedule to Velingrad. (When we thought to use the bus, the schedule on the website was wrong).
When you arrive in Velingrad, it takes around 15 min walking to the hotel (from the railway or the bus station).
Wonderful accommodation in Hotel Spa Club Bor 4 * Velingrad
Hotel Spa Club Bor 4 * Velingrad offers boutique rooms, studios, and suites at affordable prices close to the center of Velingrad. The hotel has 36 double rooms, 4 studios, and 42 suites (1 Deluxe Suite). The rooms are cozy to make you feel comfortable during your stay. We booked a double room, but as a compliment from the hotel, we got an apartment – spacious, clean, and comfortable, perfect for a couple with or without kids. There was a living room (TV, AC, minibar, big couch, coffee table, armchairs, etc.), a bedroom with a balcony, and a bathroom with a bathtub.
If you decide to come here with your colleagues at conferences, seminars, or team buildings, the hotel provides good conditions with well-equipped conference rooms (for up to 100 people). So you can combine work with relaxation.
Restaurants in Hotel Spa Club Bor 4* Velingrad
Ok, my travel buddy and I are foodies, and delicious and diverse food is essential when choosing a hotel to stay in for a couple of days. Hotel Spa Club Bor 4* Velingrad has various restaurants for every mood and customer, offering freshly prepared delicious dishes and drinks for every taste. So it is a good option if you want a meal included in your stay.
Main Restaurant
Restaurant Bor has 160 places and works daily from 07:00 to 24:00. Here you will find a beautifully furnished restaurant combining classic and modern elements where you can enjoy culinary delights. Different events and programs are also organized on holidays and weekends to entertain you. And in addition, you can enjoy a fantastic view of the town and the nearby mountain while drinking your morning coffee – amazing, especially in winter when everything is covered in snow.
In the main restaurant, you have your breakfast, lunch, and dinner or individual menus according to your needs. If you book a BB or HB accommodation, you will have a buffet with a wide variety of dishes. (I couldn’t decide what to try 🙂 ) Most dishes were delicious, but of course, everyone has a different taste). For dinner, healthy and rich options with at least 3 main dishes, side dishes, salads, desserts, and fruits are available for every taste. So, you can choose from fish, chicken, beef and pork meat, different potatoes, croquettes, rice dishes, steamed vegetables, fresh salads or pickles, pastries, tarts, baklava, eclairs, etc. Add traditional Bulgarian wine for a perfect local experience. In the morning, you have a continental breakfast with a rich choice of different kinds of salami, cheese, ham and eggs, traditional Bulgarian banitsa, cereals, yogurt, and lots of fruits.
Lobby Bar
Enjoy a cup of coffee or a cocktail in a quiet atmosphere and relax a little bit in the afternoon between the spa procedures.
Panorama Bar
Ready for a unique experience? Panorama Bar, situated on the top floor of Hotel Spa Club Bor 4* Velingrad, is the only place in Velingrad with a 360–degree panorama over the town and the surrounding hills of the Rhodope Mountains. Unfortunately, I couldn’t visit it because it was closed during my vacation… but next time!
Fresh Bar
Get something energizing at the Fresh Bar after a workout in the fitness, spa procedure, or simply while chilling on the lounges around the swimming pool. The bar offers ready-made drinks, cocktails, or ice cream.
Facilities of Hotel Spa Club Bor 4* Velingrad
Fitness center
Ok, I admit I didn’t work out in the gym during my holiday in Velingrad (but my travel buddy didn’t miss checking the gym). However, if you want to stay fit during your spa vacation, you have an excellent opportunity to do it here. So choose your training equipment (a cross-trainer, treadmill, dumbbells, strength training equipment, etc.) and get a natural energy boost. Then, when you are ready with the training, it is time for pampering yourself in the wellness center of the spa hotel.
Wellness center
We chose Hotel Spa Club Bor 4* Velingrad to relax and recharge our batteries. So, a good spa center and different therapies were essential for us when looking for a hotel.
Now, let’s see what you can find in the wellness center:
All spa pools in Hotel Spa Club Bor 4* Velingrad are with mineral water from the “Radonova Banya” spring (temperature of the water 42-43°C).
Indoor pool – the water temperature is 28–30°C. It is a nice not-so-high pool (1.60m), where I spent most of the time (maybe because I am Aquarius). I really enjoyed our vacation, because we had luck and there weren’t so many people during the week (unlike the weekend when the hotel was full). Even sometimes we had a private pool area only for both of us. Great! So, if you can, I recommend going during the week.
Outdoor pool – the water temperature is 24–26°C. Have you ever chilled in an outdoor pool while it is snowing over you? Try it now!
Jacuzzi – after the outdoor pool, why not warm up your body in the jacuzzi with a water temperature of 36–38°C?! Enjoy high-pressure spray nozzles submerged in the tub to create a bubbly hot-water bathing experience. Use the hydro massage to relieve muscle pain and improve the circulatory system.
Garra rufa fish spa procedure – the small fish can help with your pedicure only in 15 min and make your feet feel softer.
Sauna – Of course, you should relax and benefit from the sauna bathing – reduce the stress levels, improve cardiovascular health, increase circulation. Unfortunately, I can’t spend much time in the sauna (it is too hot and dry here for me), so I prefer the steam bath option.
Steam bath / Moroccan bath – if staying in a sauna is challenging for you, you can try the steam bath in the hotel. Honestly, I prefer staying here. And there are also a lot of benefits for your health from such a procedure. It helps improve skin health and circulation, ease bronchitis symptoms, and workout recovery.
Not to forget – there is even a salt room where you can treat respiratory conditions, such as asthma, chronic bronchitis, and allergies. You can use it but at an additional cost.
And relaxation area because you need to rest between the procedures and prepare yourself for the next one.
Spa center – Massages and therapies
In addition, the guests of Hotel Spa Club Bor 4* Velingrad can indulge in beauty treatments and relaxing and healing massages in the hotel’s spa area.
You can also book “Package Balneology” with healing water treatments and medical procedures during your stay (our choice for this vacation). There are different types of packages depending on your needs.
Available medical programs are:
Robust locomotor system, Healthy lungs, Robust nervous system, Rheumatology, Toning program, Anticellulite program, Harmonious body, Anti-stress program. You get 3 different procedures every day after consultation with the medical team. (Guess which program I chose :D).
In the medical area equipped with modern equipment, guests receive excellent service from the healthcare professionals working in the balneology, rehabilitation, and recovery fields. You can enjoy relaxing baths at the spa (eco herbs, aromatic salts, essential oils) or pamper yourself with a massage or cosmetic therapies for the body and face. I admit I enjoyed the hydromassages (full body massage in a bathtub with nozzles). And not to forget – they are very beneficial for your body. Hydromassage tubs can relax all muscles and release stress thanks to their hydrotherapeutic action. Don’t miss them during your stay in Hotel Spa Club Bor 4* Velingrad!
What is your favorite massage – aroma massage with volcanic stones, relaxing massage with honey, Chinese point system? Add some body therapies too. For example, enjoy hydrating, exfoliating, and slimming spa treatments (this is for me, I must get slim for the summer 🙂 ). Or facial therapies – cleansing, hydrating, and rejuvenating facial treatments. You have a long list of procedures to choose from. So, why not pamper yourself?!
I have visited Hotel Spa Club Bor 4* Velingrad twice, but I will go again. And I recommend it to you if you choose Velingrad for your spa vacation in Bulgaria.
